Problems with embedded images

We've encountered the next problem: our application creates an Ole-mailitem (PB, much alike VB). We attach hidden attachments to it and in the HTML body we use the well-known 'cid:' construct. When displaying/sending the email normally (our environment and in most environments of our client) it's displayed correctly. Nevertheless we've got a few clients where the HTML is changed (what process does this?): the cid:image1.gif is altered to cid:image1.gif@<some code with a dot in the middle>. I don't know any solution yet (after 1 1/2 week of searching). We created a work-around: the image is replaced by a internet-image (a href src="http://...."). This works, but has a few cons. The only thing we've found: the clients all have Citrix installed, but even if we don't use Citrix the problem exists. It's probably a setting in Exchange (2003).
